StoryBooks
Stories are an important part of learning any language.
Stories are great tools for memorizing new words and phrases. As you listen to a story, you get immersed in it and absorb new information more efficiently. Stories give us context which is key for learning new words. They help you create connections and associations facilitating the entire language acquisition process. Stories teach us grammar and syntax in the most natural way. And most importantly, stories enable linguistic and cultural immersion – your child learns Tamil culture along with spoken Tamil.
Children and bedtime reading of stories
As parents, we know the value of reading to your child, especially as part of a bedtime ritual. This practice enriches their language development on multiple levels. It grows their imagination and appreciation for stories. It builds their vocabulary so they can be well-spoken. It encourages engagement and conversation.
While English children’s books are available everywhere, ones in Tamil are not so easily obtained. Even those Tamil books are often written in a literary style that is out of reach for the early language learner. You may have had the experience of reading such books at bedtime to children, only to find that you have to first read it to yourself and retell it in ordinary spoken Tamil.
Cognita LLC will be offering storybooks written in simple Tamil, colorfully illustrated, and telling engaging stories – stories that have been handed down over generations, as well as stories from modern authors aimed at the sensibilities of today’s children.
